Description : As a tertiary centre, the Hepato-Gastroenterology Unit receives direct referrals from 12 out of the 16 administrative regions in Ghana.

Our chronic hepatitis B cohort consist of adults with cirrhosis of the liver,hepatocellular carcinoma and also pregnant women. They are screened for co-infection with HCV and HIV routinely and depending on presentation and response to treatment, HDV.  Diagnostic tools available include ultrasound, fibroscan and CT scan. Those eligible for treatment are put on TDF/TAF. All patients are followed up 6 monthly for response to treatment, cirrhosis and HCC surveillance using hepatitis B viral load, LFT, AFP and abdominal USG/ fibroscan.

We run the Viral Hepatitis in Sub-Saharan Africa Project ECHO clinics as a spoke with Cape Town as the expertise Hub.
